Trust a Professional With Your Wisdom Teeth Extraction

By Aaron Vincett

Teeth removal always requires a lot of training and expertise, but wisdom teeth extraction is especially complex. You want to put your trust in a dental professional that works with wisdom teeth only. The dentist you visit for regular dental procedures can give you a good referral for a wisdom teeth only professional. They have been trained and developed skills in expert removal of the wisdom teeth. If proper precautions aren't taken, blood could be lost, infections could develop or nerves could be damaged. If you go with a general dentist to do the oral surgery, you could end up wishing that you had chosen a wisdom teeth only dentist.

You need to develop a relationship with your wisdom teeth surgeon. Trust is essential to allow the procedure to go smoothly. While you are always going to be a little anxious about any sort of surgery, a calm demeanor going into the procedure is going to allow you to be more at ease as well as your dentist. This will help your wisdom teeth only, not your sanity go.

The two most common reason wisdom teeth are extracted are 1) the wisdom teeth only erupt or grow in partially creating a perfect pocket for bacteria and infection to flourish. And 2) the wisdom tooth comes in sideways rather than vertically the way they should. This causes pain and discomfort due to pressure on the other teeth. This can also cause misalignment of your teeth because of shifting when the wisdom teeth come in.

Most people that have their wisdom teeth removed have them taken out in their late teens or early twenties. Most people have four wisdom teeth, but many only need a few causing problems to be removed. Wisdom teeth sit just behind your second molars, which is why they can be referred to not wisdom teeth only, but as third molars too. Your dentist will watch the activity of your wisdom teeth as you grow older and give you advice on if and when they should be pulled. This activity can be observed by x-rays and reports from the patient of any pain or pressure in the back of their mouth.

The reason most people get their wisdom teeth out when they are young is a preventative measure to get them out before they cause any serious problems to the patient. Wisdom teeth only dental professionals can usually tell when it is just the right time to have them extracted. Younger patients also have faster recoveries and therefore less down time after the oral surgery. Even though it is better to have them out earlier, it is never too late to have them removed. Many adults have their wisdom teeth out in their later years if they suspect they could see problems in the future.

If a patient opts to not have their wisdom teeth out, they could never run into problems, but it is likely some difficulty will arise at some point in their. Even if they had chosen to keep their wisdom teeth, if an infection develops, a dentist is going to have to extract them to stop the bacteria from growing and spreading. A regular cavity may also develop in a third molar that will most likely be extracted, but still leaving you with the other three. Most patients have found that early extraction of wisdom teeth only was much simpler and less stressful than waiting for a problem to present itself.
