Be Prudent How You Exit Vehicle Leases

By Stephen Griffins

A small demographic prefers not to own a car. They like the idea of vehicle leases where they can drive a new car every two to four years. They have signed a leasing contract where they make monthly payments that are smaller than ownership contracts.

These people prefer to make payments just on the portion of the vehicle that they are leasing. They also like the fact that they pay fewer taxes and that they are not held responsible for making a down payment. These advantages should not stop them from reading through the contract including the fine print. They do not want to be surprised by any hidden responsibilities that will end up costing them more money than they thought.

The person who signs the lease contract must always keep in mind that There are always unexpected events in life that can alter plans. They may for instance have to end the contract earlier than the agreed upon date in the contract. They could be transferred to another job or they may be a family tragedy. One never knows what may happen.

The contract will have a penalty clause for early termination of the lease and the cost is usually very high. Prior to signing the contract the individual needs to make sure the entire contract is read. They must be aware of their responsibilities. The financial consequences can be difficult for them to meet. They should know that there are alternative options.

There is something called a lease transfer that allows the lease holder to cheaply exit from the lease commitment. Another individual can take over the lease payments. This is a lease assumption and there are many people whose names are listed at special websites focusing on this solution. The leasing company must approve this transfer.

Vehicle leases are an interesting alternative to car ownership and allow the contract holder to drive a new car every two to four years. Before signing on the dotted line it is highly recommended to make sure you understand exactly what you are signing
