Domain Name Purpose

By Bill Heath

You domain name is important because it's your internet address for your unique place on the web. Whether your selling a product or jut telling the world who you are, the domain name identifies you and lets you have an internet presence. Consisting of strings of numbers that are separated by dots are called IP (Internet Protocol) addresses, and they're very hard to remember even if every computer on the internet has one. If you want to make internet communication easier, then use domain names.

When it comes to considerations for successful eCommerce, domain names are very important. To avoid fruitlessly wandering around cyberspace, create a name that's easy to spell and remember. To eCommerce entrepreneur, domain names are just as important as store names were to shops years ago. The shopper can have an idea of what's to be expected from the site due to these descriptive labels.

Remember to relate your domain names to the product of service that's being offered. Domain names are have no value to the company if they don't apply to the content. Cyber-shoppers would be uninterested in doing any future business with you. With descriptive domain names, surfers who are just window shopping can be drawn and maybe even convert them into buyers. Other eCommerce business will readily develop back-links to your site if you're recognizable because of your domain name.

As long as the domain name is descriptive about the product or service, then it remains to be an effective branding tool. When your industry is mentioned, you want shoppers to think about you and know about your content. Branding is a way in which global symbol is created. When your business is described by a domain name, your brand is reinforced and it's easier for shoppers to remember you and return to your site.

Evoking credibility and a sense of professionalism for eCommerce are domain names, and this fact is important to remember. You can offer shoppers your products and services in cyberspace if you have a compelling domain name. Besides having your own place on the web and on the global market, it also shows you're willing to relate with the international community.
