Barcelona Tourist 1

By Juan Carlos Pell

Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, an area with its own language, character and history.

Barcelona is a multi-cultural town full of surprises, contrasts and lots of charm, you should generally look up and around or you may miss some of the finest bits.

All our Apartments for rent in Barcelona are found in the most central areas of Barcelona.

In this guide of Barcelona, you'll find the different characteristics and attractions of all the areas of Barcelona, some culinary suggestions and some places we specially advocate.

1- The Gothic quarter and La Rambla:

he Gothic quarter is the oldest part of Barcelona with its medieval buildings and small streets making labyrinths. Its found to the west of the famouse Ramblas till Through Laietana and between Plaza Catalunya and the Quay.

La Rambla or Ramblas is the hottest boulevar of Barcelona. It goes from Main Square Catalunya to Colombuss square and is always chock-full of atractions, from flower stands and important buildings to human statues performances and bar terraces with expensive beers.

Its a real pleasure to stroll around in this pedestrian area and you will find a lot of peaceful squares, like Main Square del Pi where you could relax or enjoy a"caf con leche" (milk and coffee), a "cortado" (coffee express) or a"bocadillo de jamon" (spanish jam sandwich) and dont miss Main Square Real with its palmtrees to have a drink or a meal.

The history is all around in this area and right in the guts of the district there's the huge gothic Cathedral. Beside there is Square Sant Jaume the center of the citys administration, facing one another across it are the Palau de la Generalitat (seat of Catalonias regional central authority) and the Ajuntament (City Hall).

For shopping, we advocate you the commercial street Portal del Angel and the street Avinyo for all its small specialized shops.

OnLa Rambla, which is by itself an attraction, you cant miss the Market of La Boqueria. For sure you'll be intrigued by its smells, its colours and all of the fresh and standard products you can find there.

In this area, we have some stunning Barcelona apartments near Ramblas and a studio for rent in Ramblas.

2- Borne and Sant Pere

or us Borne is the coolest district of Barcelona, we especially like its bohemian and stylish atmosphere. It is a little hamlet in the city center, fashionable but very authentic. Its found on the west of Thru Laietana to the Parc de la Cuitadella and between Plaza Urquinaona and the Pier.

The Born has been the commercial hub of Barcelona since medieval times, and these days is lots of designerss clothes boutiques, shop food stores, fashionable bars and trattorias.

Do not doubt to go into the little streets to sample the old Barcelona. You can for example have a walk on the medieval trading which will lead you from Main Square de lAngel (where was the grain market), to the street Argenteria ("silverware"), trough among others the streets Mercaders ("traders", probably in grain) and Montcada where there are the Picassos Museum and some medieval merchants palaces. Then you may reach the animated Paseo del Born (a heart for the citys trading for 400 years) masses of cafeterias and patios and finish by the magnificent church of Santa Maria del Mar.

Dont miss, up el Borne, the San Pere area. It may be medieval in origin, but its best monument is one of the most unusual works of Modernism, the Palau de la Musica. And the Market of Santa Catarina is speacilly reccommended for its fresh food and restaurants.

Staying in our apartments for rent in Barcelona of the Borne area, gives you the possibility to enjoy totally all of the treasures of the old part of Barcelona and to be in a central location with all the beauties of the history around and 10 minutes walking from the beach.
