Choosing a Control Panel for Your Website

CPanel is a Unix control panel designed for web hosting exclusively and which has a graphical interface/automated tools that make web hosting a much easier process to handle. It also is a diverse tool that can serve as either a successful virtual private server or a server that is totally dedicated in nature. It is also capable of supporting other operating systems such as CentOS, FreeBSD and Red Hat Linux.

CPanel is the perfect interface that not only provides GUI but also API-based access in addition. It is API-based access which permits developers, web hosting companies and third-party software sales professionals or vendors to be able to initiate system administration functions that are automated. These various system administration functions include managing PGP keys, mailing lists, crontab tasks, to name only a few.

cPanel's history goes back to when it was originally designed to be used for Speed Hosting back in 1996. Speed Hosting was a web hosting company and cPanel creator was no other than a man named J. Nick Koston. Koston also once held a share in Speed Hosting himself. A company called Web King immediately started to use cPanel not long after they joined their business with that of Speed Hosting. The new company that resulted as the merger between Speed Hosting and Web King became known as Virtual Development Inc. VDI is now a company that is no longer in operation as a hosting facility and Koston made an agreement with them to only let customers use cPanel.

Is c-Panel the best control panel? The answer to this question is a most definite yes and what has been highlighted here only pays homage to that statement in truth and detail. CPanel gives simplified management to web hosting that needs to be managed as efficiently as is humanly possible. This is because this amazing control panel is totally capable of handling system administration duties solely from within the confines of its interface. Something which does truly set it apart from other control panel systems that do take care of web hosting functions that need taking care of from a multi-tasking perspective.

CPanel has specific features that is specific to it and which definitely does separate it from other control panel systems. These key system features do include the ability to handle PGP keys, taking care of mailing lists, tasks for crontab, amid some of its numerous functions. It also possesses extras in the form of add-ons which a client can pay additional fees for if they so wish. One of the most noted among these add-ons without a doubt is no other than the auto-installed known as Fantastico. Fantastico does automate the installation of many web applications with some of them being Drupal, Moodle, SMF and about fifty more.

CPanel is very special to web hosting needs and to the whole world of web hosting is a very much needed control panel for a multitude of functions only it can provide to people.
